Explained
What is SMS marketing?
SMS marketing is sending text messages to subscribers who have opted in, such as order updates, offers and reminders. The message is short and arrives on the phone directly.
It differs from email in length, cost and expectation. A text has little room, so it carries one message and one link, and recipients expect it to matter.

Platform rules
What are the consent rules for SMS marketing?
In the United States the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) requires prior express written consent before you send marketing texts, and each message must offer a way to opt out. Other countries have their own rules, so we check the rules for each market you send to.
We design sign-up forms with clear consent wording, record where and when each person agreed, and honor opt-outs straight away. This page is not legal advice, and we recommend your own counsel review your wording.

Pricing
How much does SMS marketing cost?
This service is quoted after a free audit, because the price depends on the scope of work. The price depends on the number of messages and flows, the markets you send to and the setup of consent capture. Message fees and platform subscriptions are paid directly to the SMS platform.
Frequently asked questions
Can I text people who gave me their email address?
No. An email sign-up is not consent to receive texts. People must agree to SMS marketing separately, with clear wording.
How long should a marketing text be?
Keep it short enough to read at a glance, with one call to action. We test length and wording against your results.
Do I have to include an opt-out?
Yes, in the United States every marketing text must offer a way to opt out. We add opt-out wording and process stop requests.
Can SMS run inside Klaviyo?
Yes. Klaviyo supports SMS alongside email, and we can set up both. See Klaviyo management.
