Explained
What is technical SEO?
Technical SEO covers everything about how a website is built and served that affects whether search engines can read it. It is separate from the words on the page and from links. If a page cannot be crawled or indexed, its content and links do not count.
Search engines work in three stages. They crawl pages by following links, index the ones they consider worth keeping, and rank indexed pages for searches. Technical SEO removes the obstacles at the first two stages and supports the third.
How a page reaches a searcher
- 1CrawlSearch engines follow links and sitemaps to discover your pages.
- 2IndexThey analyze each page and store the ones worth keeping.
- 3RankFor each search, they order indexed pages by relevance, quality and usability.
Common issues
Which technical problems stop a site from ranking?
- Blocked crawling
- robots.txt rules or login walls that keep crawlers out of important pages.
- Pages not indexed
- noindex tags, wrong canonical tags or thin content that lead Google to leave pages out of its index.
- Duplicate content
- The same content at several URLs, common with filters, tracking parameters and www or http variants.
- Broken links and redirect chains
- Links to missing pages, and redirects that pass through several steps.
- Poor site architecture
- Important pages buried many clicks from the home page, or orphan pages with no internal links.
- Slow pages
- Large images, heavy scripts and slow servers that fail Core Web Vitals.
- JavaScript rendering
- Content that only appears after scripts run, which crawlers may read late or not at all.
- Missing or invalid structured data
- Schema markup that is absent, incomplete or does not match the page.
- Mobile problems
- Content or links missing from the mobile version, which is the version Google indexes.

Core Web Vitals
What are Core Web Vitals?
Core Web Vitals are three measures Google uses to judge the real-world experience of a page. A page passes when at least 75 percent of visits meet the good threshold.
- Largest Contentful Paint (LCP)
- How long the main content takes to appear. Good is 2.5 seconds or less.
- Interaction to Next Paint (INP)
- How quickly the page responds to a tap or click. Good is 200 milliseconds or less.
- Cumulative Layout Shift (CLS)
- How much the layout moves while loading. Good is 0.1 or less.

Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between technical SEO and on-page SEO?
Technical SEO makes sure search engines can crawl, index and render a site. On-page SEO improves the titles, headings and copy of individual pages so they match what people search for.
How do I know if my site has technical problems?
Google Search Console shows them: the Pages report lists URLs that are not indexed and why, and the Core Web Vitals report shows speed problems. A crawl of the site finds the rest.
Do you make the fixes or only report them?
Either. We implement fixes directly on platforms such as WordPress and Shopify, or give your developers a prioritized list with exact instructions and check the result.
Is technical SEO a one-time job?
The first round of fixes is a project. After that, new pages, plugins and redesigns introduce new problems, so the site is monitored each month as part of an SEO package.
